Health benefits of drinking water

           Water is the most important substance for human survival. It is not only thirst-quenching but has many health benefits for a human body and vital organs. A human can live without foods for more than three weeks but without water, they hardly live a week. About 60% of human body is water. Water helps in the proper functioning of organs and transport nutrients in different parts of the body. So, the human body requires an adequate amount of water for the proper functioning of the body.

SOME BENEFITS OF DRINKING WATER:

1. IMPROVE PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE:

           Drinking adequate amount of water improves physical performance. Water from the body loses while breathing, sweating and digestion thereby decrease the level of water in the body. Lack of water will significantly impair physical performance. It is important to drink water to fill up the shortage and energize the body.

2. RELIEVE PAIN:

          Water acts as a lubricator and lubricates the joints in the body resulting in relieving from pain on joints. Drinking water keeps a human eye hydrated and reduce the eye strain.

3. PREVENT DISEASES:

         Bone disorder diseases like rickets and osteoporosis can be reduced by drinking water. Water prevents a diarrhoea patient from dehydration. The frequency of headaches also can be minimized by drinking water.

4. IMPROVE SKIN:

         Drinking insufficient amount of water will dehydrate the skin thereby the skin become dry, tight and flaky. Dry skin is more prone to wrinkling. Drinking lots of water keep the skin hydrated and improve the condition of skin making the skin looks younger.

5. MAINTAIN BODY TEMPERATURE:

         Water absorbs the excess heat from the body and evaporates as sweat. This evaporation as sweat reduces the body temperature to normal. Drinking plenty of water helps in stabilizing the temperature in the body.

6. PREVENT KIDNEY DAMAGE:

         Drinking water helps in flushing out harmful bacteria and toxins from the body which reduce the bladder and kidney damage. In rare cases, water can also flush out kidney stones.

7. IMPROVE DIGESTION:

        Water form saliva and mucus in the body and lubricate the food intake that helps in proper digestion of the foods. After digestion, the flushing of waste is also helping by water. Water balance the Ph level in the body.

8. IMPROVE BRAIN:

        The brain is mostly made up of water. A dehydrated brain actually shrinks due to lack of water. This shrinking of the brain can cause memory loss. Hydrated brain not only reverses the memory loss but also improve the mood. Drinking plenty of water helps in supplying enough oxygen in the brain which improves the concentration and cognition.

        Drinking a glass of water half an hour before every meals will helps in curbing appetite and eat fewer foods. This reduction in calorie consumption will reduce body weight.

AMOUNT OF WATER TO BE DRUNK EVERY DAY:

       Drinking extreme amount of water is also not safe for the human body. Because it will act as a solvent and will dissolve the salt and sodium from the blood causing hyponatremia. For this reason, one should not drink lots of water in a short period. The researcher has found that drinking 2-3 litres of water every day is the safest and best for improving one’s health.

HOW TO DRINK:

       Spread the amount of water to be drunk into 8 glasses. Drink a glass half an hour after brushed, a glass before, during and after for both meals (total 6 glasses of water) and the last glass should be drunk before bed. This will keep well in overall health performance.

HOW TO KEEP HABIT OF DRINKING WATER:

        * Drink a glass of water after you brush every day.

        * Replace your morning tea or coffee with a glass of water.

        * Drink water before and after every physical work.

        * Replace the soft drink with water.

        * You can also add slices of lemon for good taste.

        * Set alarm on your mobile phone and drink water as soon as alarm ring.

        * Carry a water bottle to schools, colleges, etc.
